The EGCC was Sweden's way of presenting to the world how Stockholm and other European city are working on meeting the demands of growing cities while maintaining sustainable economic development and decreasing the negative impact on the environment.
The conference welcomed decision makers - politicians and officers - from other European cities and worldwide. The conference focused on urban challenges in a European and global context and offered a unique opportunity for participants to create networks where one can exchange ideas and examples of both global and local solutions.
Winners of the European Green Capital award for 2012 and 2013 are Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spanish regional capital) and the French city of Nantes, respectively.
